Navy Memorials Around The Country

Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
A replica of The Lone Sailor© statue was dedicated on October 31, 1997 at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes. Recruit Training Command is the largest induction and basic training site for the Navy. Because more than 40,000 recruits pass through the Command each year, Great Lakes is a natural location for The Lone Sailor©.

In order to get the statue on base, a $1 million fundraising campaign was established. The campaign's kickoff was held in Chicago. A large amount of support was provided by the Chicago Councils of The Navy League. Monetary donations were used for statue placement and site development.
